Viking Bushcraft Shelter Build in 4 Days – Full Build | Vikings
We build a viking bushcraft shelter in 4 days based on traditional Icelandic viking houses which were built from turf and sod. This camp is built slightly different, where we didn't use stone and turf for the walls, we built a timber frame construction in the shape of an a-frame where the rafters on one side go all the way down to the floor. This gives much more room inside the shelter. We used woven sticks in the form of "hazel hurdles" as a base to put the turf and moss on top. We finished off the walls with more woven sticks known as wattle. Thanks for watching!

How much for rent?
I bet the owner of that property is thinking the same thing!
Here is a short version of the Viking Turf Roof Shelter Build! With lots of people still in some form of lockdown I thought I would give you an extra video this week. Stay tuned this Friday 6PM GMT for the next episode of the Celtic Roundhouse series! Cheers! – Mike
How do you waterproof these huts?
Hey buddy how long does it take you to make one?
Loved the video great build I’ve always loved survival and bushcraft myself learnt from a very early age im from a very rural background a lot of woodlands forest lands etc I miss it i made the mistake of moving to a city and learnt that I’m not a big fan of city living cities can be nice for a visit but fingers crossed i will get back to rural living as soon as possible Anyway loved the video keep up the good work stay safe and well Godbless to all the good decent people. Ps have you thought about maybe building a little village and maybe having it as a visiting/educational village for day trippers etc Obviously after this Corona virus ( hopefully ) gets sorted ?
What country is this?
@C J UK i think
Why does this message not have a TA Outdoors heart next to it??
Bruh
Pandering perhaps
Maybe it does 👀
But it does
Ohh
Oh my god, i love these videos. Wish i could build something like that one day. Great work 💚🤠👍🏻
I have to say that Father and Son team just keeps kicking but. That’s a really great building and a great job. Thanks for sharing this video I really appreciate it just got me out of the house into the English Countryside. And here’s some Yankee humor for you, sod off. That’s the best sodhouse I’ve seen. Please stay safe and stay well and as always God bless.
I know you used to put a list of your gear in the description but I kind of looks like you’ve got some new stuff. I would love to see a new bushcraft loadout list! Yet another great video! Please don’t stop any time soon!
Thank you for saving the sapling! Fabulous video….
I love that he replanted that seedling.
Yes loved the replanting of tree.. Awesome.👍
Yeah I love to plant trees
YupX That and when he took a break to play with his dog. Awesome.
I only found this channel a week ago and have been watching most of the builds so far. And I’m getting the impression that this guy really loves nature and working with it and in it. So, delighted as I was that he replanted the seedling, I was not surprised. What a lovely person! I wish he’d tell us his baby daughter’s name…
We are all wardens of this green Earth.
Great video! I like this kind of upload. No talking, no annoying sponsors/ads. Just good content, straight to the point. 😊 Earned a like. 👍🏼
Man, you keep building cool houses there and you’ll have an entire village lol
I always love your videos! Especially the historical ones since I’m a huge history buff. Just a word of advice though, the vikings/icelanders would place birch bark down first before the turf so the rain won’t seep through the rafters, given that there’s no birch trees though I see why that was passed on. I am curious to see how efficient this roof, without the birch bark, is at shielding from water.
I want to see him stay in these when the weather is rainy and or during winter to see how well they are contructed. I believe he would stay dry and warm but want to see those videos!….LOL
Me too…
There will be some very confused archaeologists a thousand years from now doing a dig in this spot.
We won’t exist in 1000 years
5:45 thanks for the footage of the deer. I live in the desert and don’t get to see woodland creatures much. Such a treat! ❤🌅🌵😷
i enjoy watching these before i fall asleep i just listen to the video and hear the crickets outside my house its peaceful lol
So very appreciate how you thin the dead trees and replant when you can. Great stewards of the land.
Thanks for sharing
My first thought: Relaxing.
My second: Spiders.
Spider repellent, if that is a thing.
Props to him it would’ve taken me a year just to build that
I love how he searches for trees that are dying already, and then replants seedlings he finds,
“Our time grows near…”
“You must prepare yourself.”
