TRUTH VS MYTH… Idaho Pastured Pigs
The IPP… the IDAHO PASTURED PIG. It has made quite a lot of noise in the homesteading world.
There are a lot of big claims surrounding it. What is fact and what is myth?
Today we share an interview on the channel with Mouse Creek Farm who has been raising these pigs for years.
Kirstin answers lots of our IPP questions including do you have to supplement their diet or can they live off pasture alone? Do they ever root? And how is their meat production and quality?

Excellent video. Thank you for posting.
Love that you did this. I have been researching pig breeds, to raise, and the IPP is at the top of my list. I joined the referred to fb page and have found it to be very informative. 99.9% sure that this is the breed I will go with. Found the mineral info discussed eye opening…nothing I had considered. So thanks, once again. Great timing, at least for me and my Spring 2021 🐷
5 mins in I suddenly notice your T shirt 😂😂😂😂🐷🐽🐖
Thank you for sharing ❤️💗❤️💖
I want pigs……
How does the IPP do in Texarkana Texas? It gets pretty darn hot here in far north East Texas.
Can you order AI for an IPP or do you have to keep a bore?
Don’t know her.
Isn’t it crazy that I live in Idaho and I heard of Idaho pastured pigs on your channel first🤷
She is awesome. We are have two on order with her in the spring. We struggled buying and raising in the fall and winter. She is so real and honest. She is authentic and loves what she does. That means a lot when considering a breeder. I am excited our first pair. Blessings
Just a quick question, we have recently got a collie pup who is very interested in our animals and cows and others next door. Should we introduce him to the Animals or should we teach him to stay away from them. Apart from that he’s a good boy and learning to be a service dog. Thanks
Lol I call teacup pigs a lie 😆 a very cute, well intentioned lie.
The first time I heard someone mention IPP’s they said they “only eat the grass, and don’t root”….. I’ve never met a pig that doesn’t root, even pigs raised on concrete haha
🤔 Wow! That means I actually have something in common with Paris Hilton! 🤣
🤣🤣🤣 I just noticed your shirt, that’s too funny!
Really appreciate the information. You presented info That I think I can use with my pigs, that are not a pasture breed.
Here I am, I don’t eat pork, have a farm, or have plans to own pigs. Still watching this. So interesting.
I’ve raised Kune Kune for a few years now and absolutely love them. The meat is great but you don’t get a large quantity. I’m exploring the idea of maybe trying IPP in the future.
Covid, Johne’s, and now rabbit Ebola? Wth!? Just when you started yours on pasture. 🤦🏼♀️ Jeez.
You seem to stay up on things like this, so I’m sure this isn’t the first you’re hearing about it, but I’m very interested in hearing your thoughts.
I was considering getting some (gardener’s black gold), but now I feel like it might be better to wait and see how this shakes out. Agree/Disagree?
The concept that pigs graze came from the slow food movement. It had good intentions, but it’s just not true. I had Kune Kunes. They rooted as well. But I didn’t mind. I too have a horrible thistle problem.
People should know. IPP’s are a lard pig. So hopefully people know what to do with the amount of fat they give. Consider curing lardo, and copa. Also. Finishing your pigs off of tannic acorns, pine nuts, walnuts, etc. it gives great flavor to the fat & the fat wont oxidase.
Glad I FF’d through the Paris Hilton part of this video & got to the good stuff about IPP’s.
Nice interview, I may want one, but sadly not for meat, sorry Aus. Anyway thank you very much Kirsten for all your knowledge and both of you to so generously share this. Blessings to the journey and good health for all!
