The Foundation of Christian Warfare

Before there was any creation, there was only God. That’s significant to understand because there were no extraneous thoughts outside of His person, because there was nothing else but Him.

That said, even when God started creating there were no thoughts outside of Himself, meaning everything that was created came forth from something that existed within God. In other words, God didn’t get creative by focusing on an idea that was outside of Himself in order to create the enormous variety that is represented in creation, rather, through His self-knowledge, He spoke and formed the creation into invisible and visible existence.

This helps to understand what 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 means:

4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Like God Himself and the example He set, we are not to engage in using our imaginations or creativity beyond the very thoughts of God, which are specifically revealed in the Bible. To do so is to exalt ourselves against the revealed knowledge of God.

Rather, we are to limit our thoughts and bring them captive to the obedience of Christ. This is literally the foundational key to successfully waging warfare against our enemies: the world, the flesh, and the devil.

To make any advancements outside of this is to cloak defeat with the illusion of victory, because it’s spreading something in the name of God that isn’t representative of Him.
