One Of The Great Secrets Of Success

One Of The Great Secrets Of Success

It is always worthwhile to learn from those that have achieved success in their chosen fields. In this article I want to focus on something Charlie Munger mentioned concerning something he learned long ago that has worked well for him over many decades.

First, if you aren’t aware of who Charlie Munger is, he’s the sidekick of billionaire Warren Buffett. He is a billionaire in his own right, but not to the level of Buffet. On January 1, 2021, he’ll be 97-year-old. On the other hand, the young kid Buffett is only 90-years-old as I write.

Munger’s advice for success

Interestingly, Munger’s major secret to success came from one of the most effective leaders in the 20th century: Lee Kuan Yew, the father of modern Singapore.

The simple secret is described in seven words: “Figure out what works and do it.”

Munger concludes this:

If you just go at life with that simple philosophy, you will find it works wonderfully well.

Does the Bible confirm this?

The question is whether or not the Bible affirms what Munger says Lee Kuan Yew said. The answer is yes.

Prov. 25:2

It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

The point in the above verse is that there is something to discover that has been concealed. That aligns with the idea that we need to find something that works. To discover something that works we need to be searching for it. That suggests it’s something that is hidden.

How that relates to us is that God has made us kings and priests:

Revelation 5:10

And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

Peter reinforces that:

1 Peter 2:9

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

When defining us as a royal priesthood, Peter is referring to us being kings and priests.

As it relates to the topic, being kings unto our God, it is our job to search out the hidden things of God, for the purpose of understanding them and applying them to the issues of life on planet earth.

In other words, “find out what works, and do it.” It’s the honor of those of the royal priesthood, those who are kings and priests unto God, to search out the hidden things of God and apply them to all areas of life. To not search out these things is to lack honor.

The first and primary object of our search is the Bible.

Once you find the secret related to your calling or work, then apply it over and over again.
