Her IDEA made BEEKEEPING EASIER! Harvesting, Uncapping, Winter storage

Beekeepers have many of the same problems. One is harvesting honey, when you handle the suppers the honey is dripping everywhere. Tracy at thehivebutler.com has started a family business out of the necessity of transporting honey frames for harvesting. Turns out it has many functions, it is a storage tank for over wintering frames after harvesting the honey. You can even use it as a Uncapping tank! The super versatile food grade hive butler, great for any beekeeper!

About OFF GRID with DOUG and STACY:
We moved to our 11 acres in 2011 from a large city in the Midwest with zero carpentry and farming skills. We live with no solar / wind power / public water or well. We share our adventure to a sustainable life, growing our own food from vegetables to meat. We post videos DAILY and they range from HOW TO to EVERYDAY LIFE and NUTRITION on the off grid homestead. We were city folks just like you probably and wanted to enjoy life and have more control over our food. We share food recipes as well as natural remedies.

    Moth balls cause pernicious enema.

Hey Doug, firstly, I appreciate all of the valuable information you pass along. This topic was particularly interesting to me. However, the audio was a bit rough. In the first part of the video, the audio struggled with wind noise. Once you brought it in the Learning Center, the echo off the walls made it very difficult to focus and hear; I had to keep rewinding. It seems like you both were yelling to be heard over the echo. You may want to look into lapel mics and adding some sound absorption into that room, especially if it is going to be a focus of communication on your homestead. I’m sure you get a lot of “advice” from viewers. I’m just trying to provide feedback and make sure the quality of the audio is as good as the content. Please keep in mind that bad audio will, usually, ruin a video faster than a bad visual experience. Thanks again for all of your contributions.

Yes I know… I’m trying to get to Hollywood standards ..sometimes you don’t know till the edit

    • TheLombardProject

@OFF GRID with DOUG & STACY Alternatively you can condition sound in post. But lapel mics will help.

    • AWAKE & tired

OFF GRID with DOUG & STACY …….. Don’t worry , Doug, you don’t need any fancy-shmancy mics or anything else to make your videos “Hollywood quality”. The content speaks for itself!! You can’t control the sound when you’re outdoors if it’s windy out and the sound won’t be the same when you go inside a big room like the one this video was shot in….my question is are those butlers tested as being food-grade plastic?? Say “hey” to Stacey!!

    • OFF GRID with DOUG & STACY

Yes, they are food grade of the best quality

    • Linda Ryssman

Try listening with the closed captioning. Works great.

I think you can make your own desiccant packets for much less expense by using Litter Pearls Micro Crystal Unscented Non-Clumping Crystal Cat Litter By Litter Pearls or some pure silica gel type kitty litter that you can buy by the pound.

    • FlorinaDarr

I went to http://www.thehivebutler.com website to purchase these boxes and on check out there is no option to use your “ offgrid” save 10% or to contact the seller . Can you help please?

    • RoseThistleArtworks

@FlorinaDarr When you go to the “checkout” there is a “discount code” section.

    • FlorinaDarr

RoseThistleArtworks thank you! I see it now. I went to use my PayPal instead and there is no option for a coupon . PS I like your channel , guys !)

  • TheLombardProject

Lapel mic’s might be a thing.

  • Renee Clark

We are looking forward to getting bees again….I just put this on our equipment list. Good info thanks.

  • Greenhorn Farmer

Hey Doug….Just an observation regarding recording in the Learning Center for the time being……There is allot of echo in there because it is probably still “empty”…..If you have the ability, turn the sound down a bit on the video…we can turn it up on our end if needed.

    • MacReflections

Sound damping would help. Or lapel mic.

    • OFF GRID with DOUG & STACY

and patience lol we were fresh off the conference and a mower was going outside so we jumped in here… hang on yall everything will be ok, sometimes you just roll with it =)

  • Villie Haizlip

We had a heck of a time trying to find someone local to come and take a swam of bee’s in one of our trees out back, they were just too close to our house. They were worried about not knowing the origin of them but we lived by a grove. Oh, bees made use of our old squirrel house, Needless to say we took them down but Love our local honey. Like hearing about new inventions to help our farmers No matter what is farmed. The necessity of inventions.🐝🐝🐝📚📓😛

  • 40 Something

just came across you guys about two weeks ago. I’ve been keeping bees for 12 years,. My mind is blown. Im buying like 47 of these things.

    • The Hive Butler

      Hahaha love to hear that!

    • 40 Something

@The Hive Butler Seriously. I’ve been using old nuc boxes, plastic office boxes…everything that was mentioned before – – including the MINIVAN and garbage bags. This is the best answer to PIA that has been honey harvesting FOREVER. I don’t have one yet, and it’s easy to see how awesome this solution is…just wish I thought of it, lol!

    • The Hive Butler

@40 Something I was right there with you! I totally understand your struggles. We made a list of all the problems that we were facing in beekeeping and designed The Hive Butler to solve as many of those issues as we could!

    • 40 Something

@The Hive Butler very cool. It’s a fantastic solution. I’m in New England, and all of my beekeeping friends are going to know about this…so be ready. LOL

    • The Hive Butler

@40 Something We’ll be ready! If you’re interested, check out our youtube channel for videos of The Hive Butler in use!

  • Christine McCombs

Thanks, this is great! Shared with our bee keeping friends.

  • Jean Adamsick

Ya, I don’t like the idea of the moth crystals, na!!! Fantastic, invention!!! And made in the USA!!!! Thanks for sharing! Do take care.

  • Dirtpatcheaven

    So cool!

  • Batpherlang Kharkrang

Hi……. OFF GRID with DOUG & STACY, thank you for sharing your video homestead chicken farmer garden 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 👕🐔🐓🐥🐕🐈🌱🐑🐴🎥👍👍👍

  • Becca

    Love that, American Made! 👩🐴🍃

  • Dark Squirtle

Moth crystals hey, I am pretty sure they would contain naphthalene which is a pretty similar chemical to DDT. I would not want that near any frames I would want to extract honey from.

  • Victoria O'Shea

Omg I’m soooooo happy it’s Made In America!!❤🙏🇺🇸

  • Dustin

That camera mic is no good for wind, looks like a perfectly calm day, sounds like a hurricane between my ears! lol

  • AllThingsCool

I purchased a set for uncapping. This is an AMAZING product!!!!

  • gary hunt

Growing up my grandfather always had bees. My dad and I have helped him to get wild hives.

  • Raji Nevin

Thank you for bee keeping! We need for EVERYONE to start their own hives so that we save our bees which are disappearing!
