About OFF GRID with DOUG and STACY:
We moved to our 11 acres in 2011 from a large city in the Midwest with zero carpentry and farming skills. We live with no solar / wind power / public water or well. We share our adventure to a sustainable life, growing our own food from vegetables to meat. We post videos DAILY and they range from HOW TO to EVERYDAY LIFE and NUTRITION on the off grid homestead. We were city folks just like you probably and wanted to enjoy life and have more control over our food. We share food recipes as well as natural remedies.

We just introduced a Berkey to our home, next the sun oven. The hardest part of the Berkey is the priming…it’s a great system.

I don’t like when the sky looks like a checkerboard either. I’ve been meaning to get a filtration system. God nudging me, now todays the day. Thanks for all information! Such a inspiration!

It was kinda nice when no one was traveling…sky was so clear.

We live in central Californian and have lots of planes overhead normally. I just remarked yesterday that there are no planes or jet trails at all. So strange.

    • HK Stans

Same, here in New England, I haven’t seen any in a couple of days – finally. They were persistent for weeks!!!!

    • Bob R

Well, with all thats going on now a days, you had better have that berkey going.

    • Amy Thomas

I’ve tried explaining chemtrails in the sky to some folks. It’s like talking to a brick wall. I even showed my Dad one time we was sitting out on the back deck. There were two planes in the sky. One was a regular plane, and the trail behind it disappeared quickly, quite normal, while the other one wasn’t. Then it would spread out like a fog, and in a checkerboard pattern eventually.

My brother lives in Ghana, where you absolutely can not drink the water without getting sick; but, he has a Berkey and it works great for him and his family. It is a great system.

  • Nicole Day

Dang yall need one in the out door kitchen just to have water out there

  • Karen Maxon

I’ve been using my Berkey for years. LOVE Berkey! We are on public water, but the utility uses chloramines. Awful stuff. And fluoride too, of course. The Berkey is one of the few reasonably priced methods that will handle chloramines. We use the carbon filters plus the fluoride filters. Our water tastes SO much better! I plan to add a whole house filter too.

We are in the Missouri Ozarks and in the first year of our off grid homestead. We have our big chicken coop and raised bed garden area fenced with 12 4×8 beds we were able to get filled and use this year. I see the progress and beauty of it all and I’m so grateful!! You guys are, and were, our inspiration to do this. You are our Homestead Heroes! Thank you both for your inspiration and informative videos!! It’s been such a blessing!

I have a house I am rebuilding 60 miles South of St. Louis, Bismarck. It is a small town. I want to start making all the stuff instead of using the electric and water from town. I am putting in a swim pond and want to put in a water wheel to generate electric. Dig down to water source and add a pump. Hopefully by next year it will all be done. I am not taking any vaccines so I won’t be able to buy sell or trade for electric or water. I hope to have the house rebuilt by fall this year.

@inspire734 I recently saw a couple yt vids of diy water generators made from old washing machines. You oughta check that out, may be what cha need.

Build your own Berkey system. Buy 2 food grade 5 gallon buckets with lids. Purchase 2 Berkey filter cartridges and a spigot to mount on bottom bucket. Mount cartridges in bottom of top bucket and matching holes to cover in bottom bucket. Fill top bucket with water and after some time your bottom bucket will be filled with Berkey filtered water. Makes gallons of water a day.

@JOSEF BORG what is the cheap fish tank filters you stated in your comment?

    • JOSEF BORG

      @Michael Mickelsen
Hi, Do a short study on “bio filters”,you’ll want to focus on the process and mechanics of bio filtration. This will get you in the right direction for building your own system from wholesale suppliers.

If you design your system well enough you should be able make portable and stationary models for a relatively inexpensive cost.

There are many ways and reasons to “filter” water, knowing the reason and what “kind” of water you want as an end product is the where and why to starting your design.

Understanding basic operation of a 99 cent fish tank filter will take you a long way in this research.

      Cheers

Google “fish tank filters” and there ya go! 🙂

For human intake/ consumption I suggest you make yours from food grade components, however a local hardware store will have what you need to make one and study the processes.

    • Dani

      Yep! Save tons of muns

Since I’m on city water, I also attached the chlorine and fluoride filters that go below the charcoal filters.

  • Anthony Ciancimino

Doug, You should run your carbon filter after the sediment filters, that way the carbon will last longer.

  • Shonita Garcia

You are absolutely correct. You know, in one video on YouTube, I can’t remember which one, I’m sure it was another Homestead channel and I think was another from living abroad. I guess I always thought that we were the only country with the chemtrails in the skies. But looking upon those videos, and they were current within the month. They also have the chemtrails over in Europe too! All over the European Countries like France and the UK and even Italy and Germany! (Learn something new every day, go figure.) And we always get the community letter int he mail around summertime. It’s basically a piece of paper stapled together and it’s from the community and it usually tells you the percentage of chemicals in the local tap water for the city. Well, I am pretty sure I’m the only one crazy enough to read it through and interpret the “Big Words” in the paper. Usually, everybody tells me they just throw it away because it’s the summertime and nobody cares to read it in the summer. Well, this year, they got lazy and decided to post a link to go and see the results for yourself instead of sharing the printout onto the piece of paper. And I’m like, you might as well as not wasted the paper or ink or staples to send this out to people. The link was like a mile long of a paragraph! It took me a good 5 minutes to type it all out. (Typing classes were great before they took them out of the school curriculums. Damn shame.) And I found out a lot of scary stuff is in our waters. Well, every year it’s getting much worse. The lead and radiation have increased every year in the water supplies. We have 7 water towers for this little town and the 5 closest to me are very much contaminated. In fact, they recommend people boil their water! But, I don’t know anybody who does that in this town! I doubt anybody even knows this information. Well, 4 years ago I invested into a very reliable osmosis water filtration system for my kitchen sink. It was what I could afford on a shoestring budget, but it was well worth it. The filters alone are $35/each and will last almost a year. You can taste the difference in the water. And the filter- containment is clear so you can actually see the filter and you’ll know if it needs to be changed without having to take it apart. It has saved me from ever having to buy water bottles. Because that was a small fortune in itself at nearly $300/month for bottled water. And not to mention the overflow of plastic in my recycling can. And the filter also reduces the pH acidity in the water for my coffee drinking. So no more heartburn! Yay! Lol. Great Share. Thanks for the information, Doug. I think I will most definitely look into creating my own “Berkey” set up in the future. I am always in the need of a new project to work on. Take care.

Thanks for taking the time to type all this. I appreciate.
We live in Kenya and have our own share of challenges too. I enjoy learning from other people in other areas.

May I suggest that you put your carbon filter on the other end let the string filters do most of the work. This way the string takes all the poo poo out first .
The string filters are a lot cheaper and you’ll got more life out of your carbon filter

  • Claudette Sova

Just a recommendation, Always, I mean always use some silicone lubricant on those threads on the head of the filter canister before you screw the canister back on to make sure that you will be able to get the filter canister to unscrew the next time that you change the filter. Also they make a special wrench to help you to unscrew the filter. The charcoal filter is for taste and odor and the string wound filter is for sediment. For the bacteria, you would need an ultraviolet system. We used to own a plumbing and electrical store for 40 years and did service calls also and water filtration was one of our specialties. I love your videos. Love Stacy’s cooking and fermenting videos.

We’ve had our Berkey for almost a year. Beside refilling it during the day as needed, it’s my last chore before bed every night so we start the day with a full container of clean water!

  • Stephanie Childers

Thank you Doug! We get our water from a beautiful, clear creek and still filter our drinking water through a Berkey just for peace of mind. We’ve had the Berkey for a couple of years now and recently did the red food coloring test to check the filters. Even after two years the filters are still working great! Well worth the money!!

      @Alvara DaCosta
Thanks Alvara. I am as I said previously trying to get mentally prepared and knowledgeable about the endtime schedule and what to expect next. Knowledge will be some comfort, as knowing what is coming upon us, perhaps will help mentally. Although we are the final generation, not sure about going through it without some apprehension…
May God bless you and your family.

I just stumbled upon your channel and have been binge watching it the last few days, I love all your experienes and information. I specially like that Stacy cooks so naturally. The minute I heard you mention capturing rain water the first thing that popped into my head was “OMG all those Chem trails, how do they filter for that”!!
