Jesus Isn’t Coming Soon: Take Dominion As Commanded by God!

Jesus isn't coming soon - take dominion as commanded by God

Genesis 1:

26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

It is instructive that when God reveals He was making man in His image, he mentions several times that we are to have dominion over the creation.

While there is more to the image of God than dominion, it is, based upon being mentioned first in the Scripture narrative, the most important part of God’s image in man.

I believe the reason for that is we can be conformed to the image of Christ in part, but without taking dominion, we are sadly lacking in the purpose of God for creating mankind. In other words, we can embrace the fruits of the spirit and have gifts, but if they aren’t geared toward taking dominion, they’re lacking the direction and purpose God wants them employed toward.

What I mean by that is we can exist in our Christian ghettos without sharing the Gospel and teaching the nations to obey all things that Jesus commanded. We are to first learn and obey God’s commands once we are regenerated, with the help of the Holy Spirit, and from there, we are to, within our sphere of influence, do the same to others, starting with our families.

Jesus isn’t returning soon, so we need to embrace the command by God to subdue the earth and take dominion based upon the guidelines given us in all the Holy Scriptures.
